Batasia Loop

Located at a distance of 3km from the city of Darjeeling, Batasia Loop is one of the popular tourist sites that attracts tourists in a huge number. Nestled on top of the Ghoom station the place is situated on a garden that is surrounded by a rail route which welcomes the world famous toy train taking 1 full round of the park before leaving to the next station. Tiger Hill

Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park

Established in the year 1958 the place was built in the name of the former governor of West Bengal, Padmaja Naidu. Nightingale Park

Lloyd Botanical Garden

Established in the year 1878 by William Lloyd, the botanical park is a part of a historical monument made in the colonial era. It is one of the oldest parks of Darjeeling and inhabits more than 150 species of cacti and a huge variety of orchid plants that are unique on their own. Lamahatta

Situated at a distance of 23 km from the city of Darjeeling, Lamahatta is one of the most beautiful places to visit. Air

Bagdogra airport is the nearest airport from the city of Darjeeling located at a distance of 68 km. From here tourists can take private taxis or shared taxis which take a journey of around 3 hrs to reach the city of Darjeeling.

Train

NJP is the nearest railway station located at a distance of 70 km from where tourist can take toy train to reach the city of Darjeeling.

Road

Hoping into taxi from Siliguri and travelling through the road while enjoying the beautiful valleys and scenic beauty of Darjeeling and its nearby areas.

Weather & Climate

Being situated at an elevation of 2045 m Darjeeling is known for its subtropical climate with annual precipitation of 3100 mm. Although Darjeeling is regarded best for tourism throughout the year, the month of April to June is regarded as the best time to visit the ‘Queen of Hills’. Some people also prefer to visit during the winter. The average temperature of Darjeeling is 16 degrees Celsius which can drop as low as 5 degrees Celsius during winters.

History

Darjeeling once used to be the esteemed part of Sikkim that was annexed by the East Indian Company after the signing of the treaty between Nepal and Sikkim. The British people used Darjeeling as a place for summer retreats. Due to its proximity to Nepal and Bhutan, Darjeeling served as a British outpost in the Himalayas till the independence of India. The city was under colonial rule for over a decade where British made excellent monuments each of which reflects the architecture of the colonial era some of which can still be seen in the hills of Darjeeling. 

Tourism

Darjeeling with its lush tea gardens, snow peaks and breathtaking beauty is regarded as one of the best hill resorts in the world. The city is also one of the most visited hill stations of India and highly contributes towards the tourism of West Bengal. Due to its backdrop of the Himalayas, diverse wildlife, and vibrant culture, the city has gained the name of ‘The Queen of Hills’ which attracts tourists from all over the world. Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) is the heritage of Darjeeling which was added to the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1999.

Darjeeling is highly known for its rich culture which can be seen in its traditions, clothing, art and crafts.
